County Court Judgements (CCJ’s)

Now this is not something you would like to receive and have on your record. A CCJ (County Court Judgement) is a judgement issued by a court once you have failed to make the required payments that are stated in the contract of your credit agreement. This is upon receiving a claim from the creditor that is taking legal action against you. The court then setup a new repayment process as a way of making things more affordable for you so that the payments can actually be made (as opposed to not being made previously). This new payment plan is based upon the individuals’ current status and circumstances. If you are unable to pay back the CCJ notice then you will need to apply to the court as to the reasons why this is and attend court to explain these reasons. If you can’t afford the repayments and don’t notify the courts by the correct procedure, other measures will be taken. For example, this could be in the form of bailiffs being arranged to visit your property. By having a CCJ against your name, it will stay on your official credit file for six years. This may be even longer if the CCJ repayments are for a longer term.
